In a Swiss study, one group of depressed patients took 100mg of 5-hydroxytryptophan three times a day, while the other group took 150mg of fluvoxamine, a type of SSRIs. From week 2 to week 6, those taking 5-HTP seemed to improve more than those taking prescription antidepressants. Other studies have shown that 5-hydroxytryptophan is not only an effective antidepressant. And in fact, all known studies confirm that it is the best alternative to antidepressant prescription drugs.

2. It suppresses appetite. To lose weight

It also helps suppress appetite, which is great news for those trying to lose weight. In a study done in Italy, people who took 5-hydroxytryptophan ate fewer carbohydrates and felt full more quickly than those who took a placebo. Serotonin, as we know it, is not dangerous. And in another experiment, we learned that eating a lot of food in the stomach without gaining weight, using 600 to 900 mg of 5-hydroxytryptophan. In this study, 750 mg of tryptophan per day was shown to reduce carbohydrate intake without gaining weight and achieve weight loss.
